Annex Improv-4 Parts (of make-em ups)

📌 EPISODE 1: Positive Addiction [Latin: Improvisus Spontaneus Gimme-us]

Why laughter hooks harder than caffeine—and why improv is the habit you won’t want to quit.

I know hundreds of people positively addicted to improv. I know them because I was their dealer for eight weeks.

There’s bad addiction (heroin, reality TV), and then there’s good addiction (exercise, improv). Once you get the hit of spontaneous, collective improvised creation—the hit is usually laughter—you want it every night.

‘Positive Addiction’… Action!

Bryan: Honey, I’m going to the office for a couple of hours.

Sheyda: On a Monday? Bryan—did you sign up for Improv again?!

Bryan: (sheepishly) I paid cash so you wouldn’t know.

Improv literally rewires your brain. Remember the “wax on, wax off” scene in The Karate Kid? That’s Beginner’s Improv. The drills don’t make sense at first— But why can’t I ask questions? I don’t like the one sentence limit. But blocking is funny! Then suddenly you’re at an office party (or a karate tournament) and boom, it clicks.

  • You are fearless in a fun conversation with your boss

  • You get big laughs in the line for drinks

  • The host family’s dog won’t leave your side!

Now it's settled- you have to get back to class- Papa's gotta get some more of that sweet, sweet Improv!
